Founded in 1992, Safety Behavior Analysis, Inc., SBAI, provides human factors consulting in the diverse area of product safety for consumer and industrial/ professional users. We perform product design safety evaluations, injury data analyses, and warning label development, testing, and evaluations. Our work has been used to develop product design and labeling specifications and safety standards. It has also provided the basis for expert witness testimony for product liability litigation. Principal consultant, Shelley Waters Deppa, CHFP, a Human Factors Psychologist, has more than 20 years experience applying human factors to the safety of product design. She has taken leadership roles in improving voluntary safety standards, as the Chair of the ANSI Z535.3 Criteria for Safety Symbols Subcommittee; the Vice-Chair and delegate for the U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 145 Graphical Symbols; and the Convenor of ISO/TC 145 Working Group 4 Test Data Evaluations. Ms. Deppa is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. She was awarded her certification as a Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP) with the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics. She has been accepted as a Human Factors expert in state and federal courts across the nation, and is frequently sought to testify.
Prior to forming Safety Behavior Analysis, Inc., Ms. Deppa worked 13 years in the Human Factors Division of the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). During her tenure with the CPSC, Ms. Deppa performed over 120 evaluations of product hazards that formed the basis for standards, information campaigns, recalls, and product bans. She has received numerous awards for Human Factors technical assessments in the product safety field.
